The Courses
7822-13 Hand Knit Textiles (Level 2) is in seven modules.
This course is ideal for those who have done some knitting and are keen to extend their skills and explore different stitch techniques.
The design unit introduces you to some design basics such as colour, texture, line, shape and style suitability, which you can use to enhance your knitting.
You will gain practical skills in the techniques and processes involved in hand knitting, along with the all-important finishing and making-up techniques.
You will apply these skills to two assessment garments, a sweater and a cardigan / jacket, which can be knitted from commercial patterns.
7922-06 Hand Knit Textiles (Level 3) is in twelve modules.
This course is ideal for more experienced knitters who want to take their skills further and develop their own designs and knitting patterns. It has a more experimental approach to the stitch sampling and the emphasis is on personal creativity. The four assessment pieces (a sweater, a cardigan / jacket, a fashion accessory, an item for interior use) are made to your own designs.
You will develop an awareness of yarn types and current trends in knitwear.
The design unit will give you a working knowledge of the jargon and techniques used by designer-craftsmen and the confidence and skills to develop and record your own ideas. You will sample a variety of technique and media and explore the themes of Colour, Texture, Line, Shape and Form.
