Decorative detailing spotted on walkabout
Ironwork is great inspiration for knit ideas (simplified if necessary). A few drain covers here too (love the way road marking lines randomly happen) and some interesting paving. I love the diagonal paving in the streets – bias knitting (Module 3).

Mosaics in Ravenna (ceiling)
Details of ceiling mosaics & their gorgeous colours. The workmanship is truly awesome. A telephoto lens was necessary as the ceilings are very high & it’s quite dark. Inspiration for stitch patterns (circular yokes?) and for knit colour schemes and variegated yarn dye colour schemes.

C&G Diploma – Research For Design assignment
The theme is ‘Entrances’ & work is presented in a landscape format A3 handmade sketchbook. This is a nice touch for the final page. Can you see why we do all the mark-making and arty techniques sampling? It’s really useful to have plenty of ways of exploring and communicating ideas.

Bathmat pattern which could be worked in knit & purl stitches Just to show that inspiration for knit can be found anywhere – starting in the hotel bathroom!
