  • Drawing v computer software

One of the discussions I had with C&G External Verifier Margaret Walker yesterday was on the importance of freehand drawing in the process of creative thinking & for communicating design intentions.  We got on to the use of charting software in official assignments.  She was adamant that, in order to prove competency at a skill,…

  • Knitting book lesson

I’m bringing this forward from its first posting in 2012, because it is an important example of good v bad. I came across this book in the library & had to bring it home to photograph because of the glaring error in edge tensions ….. Let these pics be a lesson of what not to…

  • C&G Diploma – Research For Design assignment

The theme is ‘Entrances’ & work is presented in a landscape format A3 handmade sketchbook. This is a nice touch for the final page. Can you see why we do all the mark-making and arty techniques sampling?  It’s really useful to have plenty of ways of exploring and communicating ideas.

  • Design Unit ‘Line’ assignment

This is additional to the mark-making & Line exercises completed in M3 where you explore the character and effect of different art materials and the marks they make.  These A3 sheets are a good example of using Line as the focus and developing decorative design ideas from inspiration.

  • Presentation at the V&A

It was a great day and we had a surprise visitor, the National Chief Verifier (and our External Verifier) Margaret Walker arrived to present the medal and Jayne’s certificates.  I am told I was very visibly shocked when I saw her!  To have three high ranking C&G personnel there was really special.  Gary filmed the presentation and…
