Visual research undertaken: looking at historical riding habits and at contemporary riding jackets.

  • C&G Level 3 Cardigan/Jacket assignment

This is the last task for the L3 course, so a cause for celebration. This was an interesting approach, the student decided to study tailored riding habits and produce a fitted jacket.  She lives in Ireland and wanted to use traditional Irish wool tweed yarn.   There was a LOT of stitch and technique sampling…

  • C&G L3 M12 Cardigan assignment

This has to be the quickest ever last assignment – completion date was just 2 weeks after we agreed the design! The ‘client’ is a 2-year old with definite opinions on how she should dress – as seen in the photos in the design brief. The mercerised cotton gives great stitch definition. The actual colour…

This student faced her knit demons (Intarsia technique) big time in this assignment. Lots of yarn sampling before making final choices was key to the success of the overall knitted fabric. Starting with boats, water & sky the first set of…

  • C&G L3 Cardigan assignment

The very last task on the Level 3 course is to design and make a cardigan.  This student chose to make it for a 6-year old girl.  Lots of excellent design development here, moving ideas along in stages.  Once she hit on the perspective / colour fade idea everything just fell into place & came together.…

  • Level 3 M12 Cardigan assignment

I seem to have left out photographing part of the design development, so don’t have pics of the garment style designs.  A block was drafted to get the right shape for the set-in sleeve and a toile made to check the fit – and it does fit perfectly.  Aran weight Lanark Mill wool.

Big CONGRATULATIONS to Jayne who has successfully completed her Level 3 course. (I took the design development work photos a while ago – and can’t find them)
