  • Sketchbook pages

Starting with defined zigzags, additional imagery moved me on to a more organic & patchy approach. The patchy chevron design was developed & sold. Result. An exercise I used to do for C&G classroom courses was to give the same inspirational image to everyone for homework.  The following week we would view & discuss the…

  • Pinterest

I know a number of you use Pinterest and find it good for storing information & imagery for your course.  For those who don’t, you might like to have a browse through my Pinterest boards (Knitwear, Knit Techniques and Colour Schemes would be a good boards to look at).  I purposely add things that are useful…

  • Inspiration / starting point for the cardigan assignment in a post below

Visual research undertaken: looking at historical riding habits and at contemporary riding jackets.

  • V&A meeting 3rd November

We concentrated mainly on the Ironwork Gallery, because there is so much inspiration here for cables and travelling stitches (Module 4). • Intarsia plaited cables

Roman mosaics from the British Museum, suggested Intarsia plaited cables. I love this technique- and you can move the ‘strands’ across the knitting just like you can with plain cables. I took it out of the cable module of the new course – maybe I should put it back in?

  • Great Instagram account (Artgarments)

This is a great source of garment style / detail inspiration… https://www.instagram.com/artgarments/

  • Exciting colour schemes spotted coming into port at Hellsynt in Norway

Apologies for there being so many, so similar – but it’s the slight differences in tonal value and light and background each time that got me excited.  The idea of changing yarn colours very slightly through something like a shawl or a striped sweater….., or for dyeing colour-change yarn ……    As the sun moved…
