  • Great online tutorial for neater 2×2 ribbing?

Rebecca sent me this and from a quick look it looks interesting, so you might like to try it if you have problems with the knit-going-to-purl columns of your 2×2 ribbing.  (cut & paste the link) http://www.jessicabiscoe.co.uk/archives/tighter-2-by-2-ribbing

  • Mattress stitch seaming

I know a few of you have had problems with this technique.  It’s one of those things that once you get it, you can’t understand why on earth you didn’t get it.  I just had a quick look on YouTube and found some pretty bad instructions! But this one is fine & it’s slow enough that you…

  • Art techniques: use of in designing

The mark-making and the art techniques that you sample in the modules are intended as ‘visual vocabulary’ for you to use for getting your ideas down on paper when designing and for illustrating your design intentions to show potential client/s.  So don’t just file the module sampling away as done & dusted!  Refer back to…

  • Meg Swanson on untidy cables

Q: I`m a knitter since many years from Sweden and I have a problem with cables. The left side of the cable and the following purl stiches gets looser than the right side cable, stiches. I have tried to knit harder on the left side but I can´t get them good enough. This makes me…

  • Art media

I love Sennelier oil pastels, they are so soft and full of colour. The iridescent effect doesn’t show properly on pale paper as you can see here. The water resistance of the oil/wax means you can add an ink / food colouring wash which looks fab.

  • Darning in ends

This comes in M3 and you might find this article useful, I haven’t looked through it properly but Knitty.com things always seem to be good & I think they use the method I prefer, of replicating the stitches – which allows the tension & elasticity to be the same as that of the knitting. http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall04/-…

  • Brilliant art technique site

Well done to Rosalind for finding this brilliant site while she was researching for her Landscape/Texture assignment. (they use Gesso a lot but it is expensive, you can get some of the effects with a mix of PVA / paint) http://www.artistterms.com/texturegallery.htm

  • Mark-making on YouTube

I thought these might help those of you currently on the Module 3 mark-making/Line exercise.  These are aimed at an Open College of the Arts art course, so are  abit more involved than you need but it might eb helpful to watch. With different pencil grades: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWBfFJH7WP4 With charcoal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_EwGt59ctI&feature=related With different implements & ink:…

  • Sanquhar Museum

I loved this little museum on the main street through Sanquhar.
