Annual conference
The KHF committee is pleased to announce the programme for the forthcoming annual conference. Tickets for our round-the-world tour of knitting traditions are available online hereIf this new link does not work for you, it is on the “Join us” page of the website.

The programme for the day features Kristi Jõeste of the Viljandi Culture Academy at the University of Tartu in Estonia, who will talk about the problems and outcomes of reconstructing Estonian mittens and gloves (11.30am). We will stay in the Nordic region for Hélène Magnusson’s Icelandic knitting traditions. Hélène is a knitwear designer and author (12.15pm).

After a refreshment break (1pm to 2.15pm) with the opportunity to join chat groups on specific topics (see below), Irene Waggener, an independent researcher and author based in Armenia, will discuss some of her findings from fieldwork in Morocco’s High Atlas mountains (2.15pm). UK knitting practitioner Frankie Owens will present her insights into Peruvian knitting traditions by video (3pm). Our last speaker will be Cynthia LeCount Samake, who is an independent researcher and author from New Mexico, USA. She will give a presentation on the Stunning Synthetics of Peru and Bolivia (3.30pm).

Knitting History Forum is fundamentally just that: a forum. Once again, during the refreshment break we will host chat rooms where you can join in group discussions on named topics. If you would like to propose a topic for one of the rooms this year, please go to our free online discussion group at https://groups.io/g/knittinghistory (either log in or register as a new member) and give us your suggestions.
